STAT - Reporting from the frontiers of health and medicine

I feel pretty strongly about this topic and completely disagree with the author here. First of all, He Jiankui does belong in prison. Not only did he mislead the parents and falsified documents, he has endangered at least two babies because the CRISPR technique is not accurate enough. We still don’t know what their health status is. Human germline genetic engineering should not be done at all with the current technology – the risks are too big. A much more balanced and mature viewpoint can be found online: Human Genome Editing: Science, Ethics and Governance. This book was published recently by National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Medicine. It’s available for free in PDF form.
